Written by Laura Eddy During the course of my last girls night out, as my friends and I wandered downtown Wilmington in search of drink specials and tall-dark-and-handsomes, we witnessed that most outrageous of drunken disputes, the notorious “girl-fight”. I didn’t realize the situation until I was literally up to my neck in it-- the sidewalk was crowded, and as I sidled on through, I heard the word “WHORE!” spit out with enough venom to poison an elephant. Although I hadn’t done anything (on that particular night, at least) which would warrant such an reaction, I nevertheless looked for the accuser. She was a very pretty, petite 20-something and as followed the line of her glare, I realized she was staring down a woman on the sidewalk next to me. Both women were well-dressed, attractive, and obviously did not accept money for sex, so I was baffled. |

Written by Debbie Panell Today’s working woman, particularly working mother’s oftentimes qualify as the ringmaster of a three ring circus. And it doesn’t particularly matter if you work in a traditional office, or at home. The days of Donna Reed are no longer here. We do not vacuum in pearls and prepare gourmet meals and open the door for our husbands when they arrive home with a freshly ironed dress on and a smile. My husband would likely have a heart attack if I did that- out of pure shock! In Ring One we have Work. Whether you have to be in an office at 8 am sharp, or have the leniency to begin your day when you please, you still have obligations to meet. I am fortunate to work from home. As a writer, you would think I sit at the computer when inspiration hits, a profound piece of knowledge that must escape my head to the “paper” and release itself for public approval. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Most days, I am at my computer by 7am. Typically, I don’t get totally off before 9 or 10 pm. I have an inbox full of requests for articles, all with deadlines. Various IM programs flashing their blinking screams with editors checking in on a nearly hourly basis to see how I’m doing. I often feel like telling them every minute I spend replying to them takes away time from writing, but, just as in an office, you can’t tell you boss that! I have phone calls to make, interviews to conduct, and research to do. All while trying to keep the one year old from pulling the keyboard off my desk! |

In Search of Prince Charming |

Written by Debbie Panell I’ll admit it. I’ve been on dating sites. Ok, just one. Fine. Two. But I have to imagine they are all pretty similar. I’m picky. I know it. I’m able to express myself with words, and took great pride in my profile. Now when I say I’m picky, I do NOT mean I am picky when it comes to the kind of guy (as in job or appearance) but rather picky about how he expresses himself with words. This largely has to do with the fact that I’m a writer and place high emphasis on being able to communicate with more than two syllable grunts. It’s one thing to say you have a sense of humor, but to actually SHOW me is what will get my attention. With that in mind, I’ve compiled a list of do’s and don’ts in your online dating adventure… |
