Written by F. M. Hicks Imagine going to a trendy, all women's club, at the behest of a friend.... There, you are invited to a private after hours event by the club mistress....You are instructed to sit in a circle of peers, bound together hand in hand, eyes fixated on the image of an star that is crudely engraved in the center of the floor; All of a sudden, you feel your skin tingle, your breath shortens, your body quivers... You are swept away in a rush of sensual emotions that rips through your soul like a long lost lover. You have been taken... Hello, my name is F.M. Hicks, and I would love to introduce you to my novel, Intentional Possession. It is as a story of both intimate and metaphysical affairs, a rebirth of a young woman's soul through the taking of her physical body. Bound by lust, and fueled by temptations, she secretly carries the evil passion burning within her as she fights to hold on to friends, family, and the attention of a new lover. It is a truly captivating and sensual novel, packed with over 90,000 flesh tingling words that will please and stimulate our more unreserved souls. Meet Carly Moore, a twenty four year old accountant who is fed up with the local dating scene. Weary of the endless sea of white collar ad executives who are fixated on their expense accounts, and fast paced lives, she accepts an offer from a close friend to visit The Soul Lair, a club that lies on the outskirts of town. She is a little reluctant at first, but with some lighthearted prodding, she agrees to leave the sanctity of her meager world. What happens at the small, dimly lit club will forever change her life. |

GAL-Space Pick: Lost in The Trees |

Written by Dustin Talley Different music suits different activities, you know this. Think about it; you have your house cleaning music, your driving music, your working out music. Your relaxing music. The problem is that these activities usually require different artists which requires different CDs or scrolls through the iPod, which hinder house cleaning or working out or relaxing. And sifting through your CDs while driving, well that's just dangerous. Thankfully Chapel Hill's Lost in The Trees have you covered. Lost in The Trees is singer-songwriter pop with a symphonic twist that brings to mind eclectic artists Cloud Cult. Complex string arrangements backup folksy acoustic guitars or an electronic drum beats. Lyrics that are dark and sometimes fun but always personal paint vivid pictures and each song is a tiny adventure. Check out the band's Myspace page at www.myspace.com/lostinthetrees and put on the song 'Fireplace' when you're about to do the dishes and I bet you'll be shaking your hips in no time. Try 'Tall Trees' when you're hopping on the treadmill for a pumping pulse to help you get through a workout. 'Score For Bosch' is perfect for a hot bath. Visit Lost in The Trees and I think you will be pleasantly surprised with what you find! *Photo courtesy of Kevin Norris ----------------------------------------------- Dustin Talley is a thirteen year musician who has played and recorded with musicians everywhere from North Carolina to Tennessee to Oklahoma to Seattle, Washington. Lucky: More Than Just a Name |

Written by Dustin Talley Do you remember way back last century before your kids were born when you often had one too many glasses of wine and sometimes forgot to floss your teeth but took those swing lessons because that swing was a' coming back? Remember it was the "Zoot Suit Riot" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and then there was the grandpapa of them all: The Squirrel Nut Zippers. Sure, you remember singing along to "Hell" and "Put a Lid on it". Well the Zippers are back and touring, but that is not what I'm here to tell you. For all of you that traded in dancing dresses for stillettos and that mad jazz swing for something a little more laid back then I have a secret for you: Lucky. Composed of Katherine Whalen and Will Dawson of The Zippers, and local timekeepers Darrell Young on Bass, and Steve Newton on Drums with Ken Johnson on guitar Lucky delivers witty and sometimes painfully poignant songs with lyrics that slice through the proverbial bullshit but leave plenty of room to shake your rump. The rhythm section brings decades of experience and add a layer of professionalism that is sometimes all too rare in local music. So go check Lucky out at www.myspace.com/ncluckyband and give the music a listen. They have more recordings on the way and I can tell you from personal experience that one of their live shows is an event not to be missed. So give'em a listen, get a sitter and come check out the show and if you drink a little too much wine and forget to floss your teeth then hey, at least the music will have been good. ----------------------------------------------- Dustin Talley is a thirteen year musician who has played and recorded with musicians everywhere from North Carolina to Tennessee to Oklahoma to Seattle, Washington. The Real Housewives of - What??? |

Written by L.D. Lee I don’t watch much television but I’ve become totally captivated by these new reality shows about these high dollar housewives. Are you guys watching? What’s your take on these shows? These women live super rich lives complete with couture clothes, staffs, nannies, several homes and for some of them, private planes. Real housewives? I think not. The show consists mostly of watching these women try to crinkle their Botox ridden foreheads as they contemplate the day’s wardrobe. “Oh, should we shop? Eat lunch at some yummy new hot spot, or just have a massage and facial because we’re simply exhausted”? Blah, blah, whine, whine, me, me, me. After many frantic phone calls to be sure no one in the groups is doing something better, they’ll settle for getting their nails done, start drinking at 3 in the afternoon and are totally ripped by 5pm. The nanny’s picking up the kids from school; the husbands are at the office till 8pm, so who cares. |

Regina Hexaphone: Transitional Music |
Written by Dustin Talley My usual routine come fall is to scope out music that is going to fit the mood. You know, minor chords that match dropping temperatures and sad lyrics that sing of lost loves and frozen hearts that pare well with daylight that lasts only as long as the workday. However, since the weather is just not changing (yay global warming!) and the days are as hot and as muggy as ever, I have stayed the course of finding music that is rustic and raw with lyrics full of substance and music that pulls me in, but doesn’t bring me too far down. All of these I have found in Durham’s Regina Hexaphone. Consisting of past members and current touring members of heavyweights such as Angels of Epistemology, Cat Power and Sparklehorse, Regina Hexaphone brings tons of experience to the table, and it shines through. The mix on the new album into your sleeping heart has a rough edge that gives the record a genuine quality, but that’s not to say that singer Sara Bell and company don’t give you harmonies that cradle you’re ears, because they do. The tunes have a somewhat hypnotic feel with a paper thin guitar tone that brings surf and ska vibes to keep you proactive in the song. Check out the bands myspace page at myspace.com/reginahexaphone and give the song where the angels sing a listen and if you like it pick up a copy of into your sleeping heart and drift along during that crazy five o’clock traffic on I-40 and when you get home it might just be time to finally turn on the heater. **Photo by michael traister courtesy of Regina Hexaphone ----------------------------------------------- Dustin Talley is a thirteen year musician who has played and recorded with musicians everywhere from North Carolina to Tennessee to Oklahoma to Seattle, Washington.
